On the night of the 15th-16th October 1987 a huge storm system , an ‘extratropical cyclone’, ravaged the Home Counties and East Anglia. It was not forecast and came as a complete surprise. It created an incredible amount of damage and killed 22 people.
To commemorate the event Mudlen End made a series of 3 models, cottages mounted on plinths in the style of Victorian ‘fairlings’, (prizes given away or sold at fairs). The models depict homes with fallen trees in front of them.
